Fleet Week 2012

This morning we took a walk down to Piers 7 and 8 off of Columbia Street. For reference, Pier 1 is just south of the Brooklyn Bridge. We strolled on and off of a handful of beautiful ships both sail and military: ETOILE (France), CUAUHTEMOC (Mexico), JUAN SEBASTIAN de EL CANO (Spain) and JS Shirane (Japan), FNS Pohjanmaa (Finland) plus several Coast Guard ships.

All of the ships are open for tours (some guided) from 8 - 5 today and 8-4 tomorrow. Then they start to head out of town up the East River on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Full schedule and more info here.

I couldn't help looking at all the sail material and thinking about all the upcycling potential!

Enjoy the long weekend!

The Big Issue

Reiter8 is featured in Taiwan's The Big Issue. They were kind enough to send me a copy. The article reports on the hows and whys of Reiter8 and sustainable lifestyle. The layout is beautiful and fun to see 'Katherine' and 'Reiter8' amongst all the Chinese characters.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Bright Idea: Plumen

I always find it a stroke of genius when the obvious is beautifully reinvented. Plumen's designer energy efficient light bulbs are a case in point.

Etsy Handmade Portrait - Recycled!

Check out Etsy's Handmade Portrait of Reiter8 which was re-edited and shown on NYC Channel 25 recently. Just goes to show that nearly anything can be recycled!!

NYC Channel 25 is my new favorite go to for the inside scoop on NYC - they have great shows and features. Take a look at their online content if you are not in the viewing area.
