Blogcation

Well, I seemed to have fallen off the blog-wagon for a while there. I guess I took a little 'blogcation'. Not all that time was spent on the beach or eating lobster, but I'm lucky enough that some of my time was spent that way.

So, back to blogging. I'm looking forward to telling you about a new studio mate. Stay tuned ...

Sharing the Spotlight!

I was thrilled to see Reiter8's Blue 8 tote was part of a fantastic list of eco chic items guest curated by Style at Home's Laurie Grassi over on Etsy's Handmade Blog: The Storque.

The stark, graphic quality of this tote from Reiter8 really makes it shine. Crafted from upcycled sailboat sails, the tote’s number is appliqued on the front and red organic cotton lines the inside, which is divided into three sections so you can easily organize all your gear.

Thanks Laurie! In addition to being the executive editor for Canadian magazine, Style at Home, she writes the Natural Chic blog. Well worth checking out.

I loved all her picks but particularly drawn to the brights:

White record bowl by vinylrocksmyworld

100% recycled felt appliqué pillow from alexandraferguson

Recycled can night light by MariposaAvenue

My favorite from the group are the organic linen napkins by natsuminishizumi. They are hand-screenprinted using water-based inks, and 5% of the profits go to Friends Without a Border, a charity that provides medical care to children in Cambodia. Nice.

Check out the entire post and more beautiful eco chic picks by Laurie!

Second Place

I love you more than is a project by Paperwhite studio that I found via the blog of a new Paris transplant little brown pen.

The project is
"an exploration into the wonderful world of love. Paperwhite studio wants to depart from the cliche valentines sentiment and find out the real things we are willing to put in second place for love. We’ll be collating and uploading them as we go along with the aim of producing a valentines day surprise. . ."

Some of my favorites:
I love you more than you love the dog
I love you more than an unexpected kiss on the forehead
I love you more than the biggest drop on the rollercoaster
I love you more than long fall drives
I love you more than ropeswings
I love you more than sharpie markers (I'm assuming they are referring to the fine point sharpies!)
I love you more than my morning cup of coffee
I love you more than Liz Lemon
I love you more than mixed tapes from high school
I love you more than licking the brownie bowl

As I'm reading them I'm thinking life is pretty damn good and second place ain't all that bad!

What a Concept!

My 'recycled sail' google alert picked up this story. The truly beautiful images of Christopher Ottersbach's concept air travel vehicle stopped me in my tracks. Aelus, named after the Greek ruler of the winds, is an airship that floats through the air thanks to it's helium filled 'sail' and was designed for travel with little impact to the environment in mind.

The vertical shape and a fold out stand allows landing in many areas far from airports. People can travel to exotic and untouched places without leaving traces. The concept is not about a fast arrival but about sensibility to the environment and traveling.

Love it.

Fancy Island

Meg Whiteley who blogs under the title Fancy Island is on a nautical roll this week! I love her picks - especially the fully functional spy glass from local store Catbird.

She features a sweet silver whale ring from Imogene and Annie, but I found their sea horse necklace (above) even sweeter! It's available on Etsy and this weekend at the Renegade Craft Fair from 11-7.

Don't forget to come by and say hello - I'll be at the Renegade at booth 140!

Messenger Bags and Grizzly Bears

Reiter8 Messenger bags are a perfect Father's Day gift for Dad this Sunday - don't forget. I've recently made a batch and I'm packing 'em for the Renegade this weekend. Unfortunately, I can't find the camera-to-computer cord to show you! I'll keep looking and in the meantime here is the Grizzly Bears, a Brooklyn band singing the Deep Blue Sea. (Keeping it nautical)

Found the band through Fancy Island a newly started blog by fellow Brooklynite Meg Whiteley.

Bagged

Was skipping around the blogesphere and came across Peter Carpenters mother's day post and a photo of THE cutest Reiter8 bag use to date.

Say hello to George (and the Blue Star Middie).

Peter's blog is a lovely commentary on food and fathering and lots of other bits of info, advice and observations.

Thanks for posting Pete!

In the bag

So, I'm seeing more 'market' bags out there. That's a good thing. But if you're like me, you still filling it with those bags in a bag: the plastic produce bags. Featured today at Ecoetsy is the reusable produce bags (set of 3 for only $7.50!) from www.remarket.etsy.com.

Nice.
