Nautical Wedding: Sail Ring Pillow

I do!

Ah, it's almost that time again. The wedding season is just around the corner!

A recycled sail ring pillow is the ultimate detail for a nautical themed wedding. They are available all white or with the wedding date embroidered on a stripe of green, red, blue, green, black or yellow insignia cloth. I love the richness of the yellow. Available here and here.

Sunshine Harnessed

Today is about as grey as it gets.

But, remember those fantastic bright sunshiny spinnaker sails that I posted about last week? Well, here is the sail upcycled and transformed into accent throw pillows. They are light and fun. Flip them over and you've got a different color combo.
Available in my Etsy shop.

Sunshine Delivered

I received a donation of several sails recently and this gem was in the bottom of the bag.
It instantly made me smile. This spinnaker is going to make great sunshiney pillows.
(I love the rope, too.)

Halogen's Green Gifts list ... and more!

I thought it was pretty cool to see my upcycled sail pillow on Halogen's 25 Green Gifts for the Home list. I'm in good company with Alice Water's 'In The Green Kitchen Cookbook' and this "Ever-Green" Aluminum Holiday Wreath from Eco-Artware

But when I went to the site and saw this video, I was sold on something completely different. Check it out:

Nautical Bride

I had the pleasure of working with another nautical bride last week to create this very special custom ring pillow made from recycled sails. The grommet and reinforced square of sail around it are authentic to the sail it came from - a real and unique, eco friendly, nautical touch for their wedding.

Not only were these sale #500 and #501 in my Etsy shop (a milestone!), I was left the nicest comment from the buyer:

Hard to say which she'll like better. Thank you again and all the best to you as you continue to create and make the world more beautiful.

Thank me? No, THANK YOU!

Feeling Lucky?

Must ... keep ... sewing!

Sewing lots these days! On the machine at the moment is a red number 13 pillow.

Gearing up for 'The Renegade' next weekend and the Brooklyn Museum's first Eco Fair next Sat night.

And with a little bit of luck of my own, I'll have a few new products. Sneak peeks next week.

Happy Friday!

Off to the Brooklyn Museum!

No, not me unfortunately. I'm talking about an order of Reiter8 bags, pillows and mini wallets that went out to Brooklyn Museum Shop.

Reiter8 products will be on sale in the shop in conjunction with their upcoming exhibit of Gustave Caillebotte's impressionist paintings. What do recycled sail bags and impressionist painting have in common? Read on:
The approximately forty paintings included in this focused thematic exhibition reveal Caillebotte’s extraordinary passion for subjects in which water plays a central role—as an enigmatic, magical element reflecting its surroundings, as an essential atmospheric ingredient, and as a scene for sporting activities. As a passionate rower and yachtsman, Caillebotte approached his motifs with the trained eyes and hand of an accomplished engineer and sportsman. The exhibition will also include drawings as well as models and sketches for the construction of Caillebotte’s sailboats.

More about the museum's merchandiser's quest for related items in their blog here

Although I will not be going to the museum today to view art I'll be going soon to teach a class - more on that in my previous post here.

The Gustave Caillebotte exhibit opens on 3/37 - 7/5. Hours and directions here.

Pillow Talk

Wow, been busy lately. Lots of juggling and new projects in the making.

Received the above photo from the very nice people at the Palisades Development Group who designed the recently opened Pailhouse Holloway in West Hollywood, CA. It's an extended stay 'boutique urban lodge'.

It's so rewarding to see the final destination of the pillows - especially when the surroundings are so stylish. Nice.
