Still Shipping ...
Sew, ship, sew, ship, sew, ship. Repeat.
That's pretty much been the deal for the last couple weeks. It's been great fulfilling orders. Speaking of orders ... back to sewing...and shipping... and sewing.
In the meantime, please enjoy these lovely ship illustrations by Catherine Campbell. Aren't they sweet?

Christmas Delivery

Today is the last day to place an order (by 3 pm) and have it ship in time for Christmas without expedited shipping fees to most domestic destinations. Mini wallets and luggage tags deliver in 2-3 business days via USPS first class mail and larger items deliver in 3-5 days via UPS ground service.
After tomorrow, email me your 'ship to' zip code and I'll send you and estimated delivery date and let you know if you need to upgrade your shipping fee in order to have it by Christmas. Having said that, East Coast orders (especially if you are in a major city) often deliver over night or in 2 days from Brooklyn without additional fees.
Many items in my Etsy shop are ready for immediate delivery. Check 'em out!
Happy Shopping!

A Little Somethin' Somethin'

I'm not sure which I like more, the photo of the sculpture or the urchin sculpture itself - both simply lovely. Ah, ha! This Minneapolis ceramist is also a wedding photographer, that explains it!
Don't you think this porcelain urchin would make a wonderful addition to desk or mantle. Reasonably priced at $24 by DiTerra available on Etsy.

The Fish That Got Away

As mentioned in yesterday's post, there were several nautical decor items that didn't make it into the Shopping With feature that ran in the Homes section of the New York Times yesterday.
I like nautical decor when it's not hitting you over the head (with an anchor). But instead suggests the sea in subtle, yet graphic ways. Here were my additional picks:

OK maybe the wallpaper by isn't very subtle - but it sure is fun! ‘Shore Leave’ Wallpaper ($150 per roll) by Brooklyn based Flavor Paper.

Made from re-purposed fishing line woven with vines around a strong metal armature this Fishing Sphere Chandelier ($410 – 630) from Seaside Inspired evokes a images of sand dunes and surf for me.

Hand-printed organic linen tea towels ($18 each) by Madder Root available on Etsy. I love the graphics and the fact that they are made with organic materials and thread as well as solvent free water based inks.

I chose this octopus pillow ($60) by Utilitarian Franchise, another Etsy seller, also for the great contrasting colors and graphic plus the white eco friendly water based paint that they use in the process.

Down East Doormats by Maine Float Rope Company. Above is a medium hand-woven stripe doormat made from reclaimed float rope formerly used by Maine lobstermen $49.95. great background story on their site - worth a visit.

Barmaid cast iron bottle opener ($30) by Nauti and Co a NY based company looks like an artifact that you might find while beach combing ... if you're very, very lucky!

Fouta

One things for sure: the fouta (pronounced foo-ta) will work hard for you. It's a versatile Tunisian throw that has many uses. Throw it down for a picnic, pack it in place of your beach towel, dress your table with it or wrap it around your shoulders when the evenings temps get a little cooler. (The temps are getting a little cooler at night, aren't they?)
The fouta is promised to get better with age and at $38 each it's easy on the wallet.
Available from Fouta Lifestyle

4 K8
I recently made this custom recycled sail 'Kate' tote. Get it? K8 = Kate
It is a second anniversary gift - lined with organic cotton. I'm loving the custom orders that are coming my way. It gives me a chance to hear the stories behind the order and in this case, to meet the local gift giver - a real perk of my job.
Keep 'em coming!

WIP - Recycled Sail Luggage Tag

Recently, I received a special request to customize a luggage tag with a number two for a second anniversary gift. Cotton is the traditional gift for a second anniversary and they are celebrating with a trip to the Bahamas. One hitch, my regular luggage tags have only a stitch of cotton - meaning the only cotton in them is the stitching.
In response, I created a custom made luggage tag made of recycled sailcloth with a stripe of navy organic cotton canvas decorated with a machine stitched number 2. Happy anniversary!
I think I'm going to be making a lot more of these ...

Give Away!

Hey, hey! We're giving away a Blue 8 Recycled Sail Tote over at Etsy in honor of Earth Day.
OK, so you say Earth Day was yesterday. Officially, you are correct. But just as all the environmental awareness that takes place on Earth Day should spill over beyond just one day, your opportunity to win this tote extends beyond the official Earth Day. You have until 11:59:59 p.m. ET Wednesday April 29, 2010 to check out Etsy's eco videos and leave a comment.
Good Luck!

Crochet Covered Stones

I missed out on today's sale of these lovely crochet covered stones from Resurrection Fern. Can't you picture them resting on a summer cottage window sill? Or on a desk at the ready to hold papers down?
My calendar is marked for her next sale: Thursday March 25 at 4pm EST
Between now and then check the photos in her shop - I particularly love the stone fish - clever!
Happy Weekend!

Mark Your Calendars

Tomorrow, December 15th is Reiter8's last day for holiday shipping. All orders placed after 12/15 will be shipped on or shortly after 1/5/10.
These lovely calendars are made by the wild unknown who were near me at the Divine Studios Craft Sale yesterday. The limited edition watercolor feather calendar (above) is striking and the lyrics calendar (below) is a wonderful collection of illustrations and sweet lyrics starting the year off with Bob Dylan and 'I could hold you for a million years'. Both are worth a closer look.

Happy Holidays!

Ready, Set ...

Early load in at the Gifted Market today was a breeze (thank you Brooklyn Flea!). It was great to see old friends, catch up, leisurely unpack and set up. Trust me, this is going to be a great market to come to.
Check out the piece that Channel 7 Eyewitness News broadcast this evening about the market:
Enjoy your Thanksgiving where ever it takes you.

WIP - Sail Messenger Bags
Just completed another batch of recycled sail messenger bags. Couldn't resist taking a few outside today to photograph. It's a beautiful day in Brooklyn -just look at that sparkly water!
I love the sail seam stitching that's an original feature of the sail these bags were cut from. It's got a double row of olive zig zag stitching and a two thin red stripes down the center. These bags a lined with chocolate colored organic cotton canvas. I'm loving this combination and really tried to emphasize it on these bags.
This batch (and more!) will come with me to Brooklyn Flea's Gifted Market where I'll be selling from Nov 27-29 and Dec 2-6. Gifted will be located indoors (yeah!) at the old Tower Records Annex building at 20 E 4th Street and promises to be a fantastic' market. Can't make it there? Additional upcycled sail messenger bags are listed in my Etsy shop.

Eco Friendly Holiday

Get ready, get set ... go?
I do like having Thanksgiving BEFORE Christmas, but there's a whiff of Christmas holiday in the air so I thought I'd get these upcycled sail stockings out there for you early birds. (OK the real early birds were shopping in August along side my mom.)
I had so much fun photographing them in Julia Mack's lovely home. Julia is an interior designer - be sure to check out her very friendly and tip filled kitchen redesign video. Her dog Trixi (aka The Trixinator) was a lovely assistant and once the lens was pointed her way, she knew exactly what to do.
Recycled sail stockings in two sizes with red stars or stripes currently available on Etsy.
